I thought there was going to be a laugh riot in my classroom when I told the students the name of the play! Then my students saw the show and the laughing and amazement continued. Bonnie's puppets, music, and story-telling ability had all my students fully engaged and talking about the show long after it was over. --Lesley Strang, K-1 teacher, Boston Public Schools

By working with Bonnie, my students are more comfortable taking risks in the classroom, such as raising their hands to participate and willingly feeling safe to get up in front of the class. I attribute this to Bonnie Duncan's ability to make each child feel safe and important. --second grade teacher, Boston
Residencies
Bonnie has a Master in Education, focusing on Arts Integration, and has been a Teaching Artist for the last 13 years in the Boston area. She is dedicated to using creative drama & movement techniques to strengthen Language Arts & Social Studies curricula, grades K-12. She incorporates scriptwriting, interactive storytelling, historical reenactments, and original student productions into her residencies. Bonnie has a passion for developing curriculum and training teachers to use the arts in their classroom.
The professional development opportunity I had by observing Bonnie Duncan interact with my students was invaluable. I have been trying to continue her work in my classroom by having students act out scenes from the stories we read, and allowing my students opportunities to use their bodies as a means of expressing thoughts and emotions. These activities originate from Bonnie Duncan's modeling. --third grade teacher, Boston
Recent Residency: Imagined Lands
Boston Teachers Union School, Jamaica Plain, MA

Imagined Land #1: Outer Space, Nov/Dec 2013
After creating glowing stars, asteroids, and planets, students used drama to go on a space walk, collect space rocks, and imagine what it would be like to go into outer space.
Imagined Land #2: Cardboard City, Jan/Feb 2014
After brainstorming things one can imagine a cardboard box to become, a city was made entirely of cardboard and played in for days on end.
Imagined Land #4: Mo Willems World--Don't let the kids draw on the wall!
As part of students' author study of Mo Willems, they learned to draw Elephant, Piggie, and Pigeon. They brought many stories to life using drama and dance. They also filled every wall of the classroom with drawings of Mo Willems' characters and shared their work with parents with a party and performances.
